Darts kicked Sunday's disappointment into touch with a very a good display against a decent Barking side this evening.
The home side made their intentions clear as early as the third minute when Gabby's excellent through ball found Emily Woodhouse who sent in a tantalising cross but unfortunately there was no one on the end of it.
3 minutes later the keeper saved well from Sarah's shot from the edge of the area.
The deadlock was broken in the 17th min when Amy Russ squared the ball inside the box where Xayla applied the finishing touch.
Barking didn't hang about in their bid to get back on level terms and were lively on the break with a quick fire response to level the score 2 minutes later.
At this point the visitors could be forgiven for thinking it was game on but our ladies weren't having it. 21 mins and the lead was restored after a long throw by Gabby found Amy Russ in the penalty area who turned and smartly placed the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper. On 25 a speculative shot was well saved by Jade in slippery wet conditions, but that was nothing compared to what was to come next.
Another break and a stinging shot was met by an incredible save from Jade who got down by the lefthand post to deflect the ball across the face of the goal and off the righthand post in the 32nd minute.
Darts finished the half strongly when a shot from Russ was tipped over the bar by the keeper in the 45th min.
The second half resumed and it wasn't long before more goalmouth drama ensued. 52 on the clock and Jade raced out of her box saving another one on one attack with her legs. She was decisive and brave and if it wasn't for her, despite our girls being the better side, it could have been 2-3 at that point.
More daylight was needed and prayers were answered with Emily Woodhouse providing the assist to set up Brionne who turned on the edge of the area and unleashed an unstoppable shot giving our girls a 3-1 cushion on 62 mins.
The industrious Woodhouse was the provider again following the like for like substitution of Russ for Emily Vaughan who put the game to bed firing home with 6 minutes of normal time remaining for Darts 4th goal of the evening.
It was a great team effort and everyone played their part very well. Player of the match not easy to choose but it never is.
I've gone for Amy Russ. She looked dangerous throughout and gives defences a torrid time. The best goal was the one she didn't score tonight.
During the second period a ball was played up to her from deep in our half. There was a defender watching her like a hawk. It was 60/40 in the defender's favour. As the ball came through Amy turned and started her run. Dropping her shoulder she totally mugged off the defender and even as her opponent turned Emily had already got infront her, before unleashing a shot that unfortunately went the wrong side of the post. Her positioning and movement was excellent and it deserved a goal. I love watching her play too. Emily Russ is a defender's worst nightmare.
There were so many good things out there tonight.
Passing, shape, energy, you name it, it's all there and the team is constantly improving. There were good individual performances too. Emily Woodhouse's assists, the crucial saves by Jade and Emily Russ terrorising the defence. Gabby's another one. I like seeing her on the right of midfield with her vision when it comes to defence splitting passes. Long or short, it's doesn't matter. If I was playing right wing that's the type of player I would like behind me. You'd definitely get the service. And she's not bad at taking throwins either. Just ask Emily Russ tonight. Brionne, Shauni, Xayla and Beth who had a solid performance at the back. I could go on and on through the whole squad because they are a great group put together by very experienced coaching staff. I'm sure anyone watching this evening will be looking forward to the home clash with Ebbsfleet on Sunday.
