On Friday afternoon I had to undergo minor surgery at a clinic in Rochester. What I didn't realise was that I'd be grounded for the next 48 hours. Upon being discharged I was handed an advisory sheet with instructions to avoid exercise including shopping and dog walking.
Well, I'm afraid I've still got to eat. But I did comply with the second recommendation. I haven't got a dog.
At no point was the dressing to be removed either, due to the depth of the wound.
However, I failed to inform the NHS there was an important League Cup quarter final taking place inside the Kuflink Stadium at 1:30 on Sunday afternoon.
After doing the maths I removed the dressing 4 hours ahead of schedule without having to call an ambulance.
The risk proved worth taking too. The first half was a bit scrappy at times but our ladies had the lion's, or should that be lionesses', share of the ball.
A through ball from Amy Russ found Brionne Fowle whose shot was saved on 10 minutes.
In the 16th min a free kick from Abbey Davies found Georgia Davis who guided the ball just wide.
Shauni Griffiths had a volley saved from a cross by Ellie Dolby
on 32. Beth Powell picked up a booking for a cynical foul after 35 minutes.
Then the referee, in 40th minute, failed to award a penalty for a blatant push on Emily Woodhouse which sent her tumbling to the ground. Anywhere else on the field and......yes it was one them. Often referred to as a botte job.
Just before half time a barnstorming Woodhouse run saw her shoot just wide of the far post.
Second half our girls started brightly with more conviction going into the final third.
So it was sods law when getting caught on the counter in the 60th minute that striker Mya Powell's initial shot was blocked by Dolby but made no mistake with the follow up.
The way Ebbsfleet are set up they become very frustrating
whenever they find themselves infront.
Charley Clifford was particularly annoying by engaging in conversation with her keeper everytime they had a goalkick.
Although I was getting hacked off with Charley I don't blame her. It's the referee's job to stop time wasting and she should have booked her the second time after already telling her to get on with it minutes earlier.
On 70 mins a fine through ball from Brionne set up Shauni who fired just past the post with the keeper beaten.
Then finally, in the 73rd minute it was all change.
Abbey Davies' thunderous 30 yard strike was plucked from the air by the keeper but she couldn't hold on to it and the ball continued over the line for the equaliser.
Then the Fleet collapsed. Emily Vaughan capitalised on a hesitant defence, as we've seen her do so many times before, and buried the ball in the bottom left corner with a ruthless strike.
Then in the 84th min Amy Russ brilliantly turned her marker and laid the ball into the path of Vaughany with another wonderful effort for 3-1.
Xayla-Rae Alberts was unlucky not to get on the score sheet when she not only made a great tackle, as she had been doing all afternoon, but got the shot away which was blocked for a corner less than two minutes later.
Player of the match never gets any easier and sometimes it's tempting to go for the goal scorers when margins are so fine to being virtually invisible. And all 3 goals were real quality.
So it's testament to her hard work in midfield that I've gone for Xayla today.
