I'm quite enjoying watching our girls on the road these days. After investing in a one day travel card, I embarked on a journey which ended with a leisurely stroll along the Grand Union Canal from Greenford almost to the ground. Although the trip wasn't without controversy.

Earlier, I was mugged by three birds in Lincoln's Inn Fields.
I had just purchased a ham & cheese baguette from Gregg's just around the corner in Holborn.
Sitting on a park bench enjoying my lunch on a sunny October day, what could possibly go wrong?
It took two seconds for a bird in full flight to grab a chunk of my baguette, literally out of my hand without stopping.

It was hard to be angry because it was quite brilliant in it's execution. I wish I could have seen the action replay.
But did it end there? Oh no.
Another one brazenly perched itself on the right arm of the bench trying to get my attention.
Which it did. Successfully too. I turned my head to see what it was up to.
And as I took a bite of my roll, another one flew in from the left and Iiterally tried to take it from my mouth. The sheer front shown by these birds was totally outrageous.
I am convinced this was premeditated all out assault. I took a photo of the one on the arm rest looking at me as if to say, "Yes, there's 3 of us so what ya gonna do about it?"
Talk about bring it on. It could have been worse.
Atleast I still got to eat most of it. After all, there could have been more of them. I can hear the theme tune to 633 Squadron now.
Baguette gone and everything. Including me.

In the end I made it to Rectory Park in one piece intime to see our dream start.
With just two minutes on the clock Abbey crossed a high ball in from the right which fooled everyone and went straight into the back of the net.
Things couldn't have got off to a better start.
I thought that would settle us down straight away.
But actually it became quite frenetic.

I felt we were doing everything right except for one thing, which was unlike us really. Instead of holding the ball we were giving it away far too many times. Everything else was to the usual high standards on the pitch.
Winning the ball we did very well. It was what we were doing with it afterwards which concerned me. Admittedly we spent a lot of time in their half but we could have made more use of the ball. A bit kick and rush at times but equally maybe credit should also go to the opposition for not allowing us the time we usually make for ourselves.
And this, at the end of day, is what it's really about. 3 points won by a slightly greater margin than the one obtained by Fulham, upon their recent visit to Rectory Park.
Based on the build up the best goal I thought was scored by Benfica. It showed what they are capable of when they're on it. The reason they didn't do it again was because every Dartford player was a ball winner today. Although there was one dangerous moment which saw Jade make another timely Barking style intervention.
Beat them again next weekend and that'll be the fixture out of the way early. Because although I don't think they'll be challenging for promotion it certainly won't be beyond Benfica, on their day, to upset our rivals for the title. As Fulham nearly found out.

The 1-0 halftime score line could have been atleast 2-0.
Especially when Emily Vaughan's 12th minute long range pile driver ricoched off the bar.

The lead was eventually increased in the 50th min.
Amy Russ firing in from a corner.
Then on 55 Russ provided the assist for Emily Vaughan, who was once again in the wars, to fire in for 3-0.
Three minutes later the hosts pulled it back to 3-1. A well worked goal which, unfortunately for them, was only a consolation in the end.

As we entered the final 20 minutes we seemed to be keeping the ball more and getting back into top gear.
And it wasn't long before we scored our best goal of the game. It was in the 82nd min when Amy Russ sent through a precision defence splitting pass through to Ellie Dolby who added the quality finish the move deserved.
Amy did it again in added time setting up Neve whose shot was well saved by the keeper.

Player of the match for me was..........I can't keep nominating Amy all the time. Can I?
Well I'll have to today. One goal and two assists which was very nearly three at the end.

But there was no shortage of candidates out there. Another player I'm increasingly finding exciting to watch is Emily Woodhouse on the right wing. The more minutes she's getting is making her sharper with every game.
And what I'm really excited about is I honestly believe there's still a lot more to come from her.

Overall it's been a good day at the office.
